My position regarding the nature of sociologies is it is an interdisciplinary world of social research. It is at the heart of understanding questions about people, society and the way people operate within and across societies. It is the summation of knowledge, currently available to us, about social-beings and society interacting, developed through a multitude of data that is interpreted with and of the biases of many perspectives. The subjectivity makes this process richer and more vibrant – a social science that supports and encourages debate. A debate that ensures sociology has an activist element to seek social justice.
The value of social research, sociology, is to inform a society so that it works, its equitable, inclusive and definitely isn’t dysfunctional – to this end for myself the cognitive sociologies are the central pillar. Cognitive sociology focuses on the individuals influence on forming society and applying society’s social constructions. In this respect it is the intersection between sociology, psychology, feminism, gender studies, and anthropology – and in effect all areas of social studies and science. Sociologies, put simply, are the basis of insights into building a vision of a functional society that is very definitely socially just. These are very grand statements, and this article will explain why I take this stance.
